The following blog post is a sibling collaboration produced by Charlie and Mills. They were challenged to incorporate five wordly wise words (each) in their writing. Working together ~without fighting~ was a way bigger challenge than the writing itself and vocabulary piece. Disclaimer~~we are a few days behind on our blog than where we actually are.
On Wednesday , January 15, we woke up in Phillipsburg, Dutch Saint Marteen. Mills and I had to do our school work, and after we were done with that we helped mom with laundryđ§ș then we took the dinghy to town. We first tried to go to customs to check in but it was closed. Then we went to a gift shop and saw a small dog named âGrizzly.â We started walking along the beachfront and I was aghast by how many umbrellas đ and chairs there were. We found out that three cruise ships đą were docked at the port and the place was filled with about 20,000 tourists in town for the day. No joke! On the walk Mills got a coconut đ„„ for a drink. We toured a Catholic ChurchâȘïž followed by lunch at Hard Rock CafĂ©. đž I got a Twisted MAC & Cheese and it was delectable. After lunch we scavenged the souvenir shops for a cool button down shirt đ for me. We finally found one after 4 different shops. We needed lots of groceries so we went to a store nearby. We had so many groceries that we had a guy carry a cart of them across the street to help us load on the dinghy. We all then dinghed back to the boat and rushed to the fuel âœïž dock before it closed. After we got gas we motored to Ile Fourchue, about 8 miles away. It was too rough đ to raise the sails. On the way there it was very windy and the ride was tedious but we made it unscathed.Â
On Thursday we woke up anchored in a Ile Fourchue. It is a private and quiet island very close to St Bartâs. My mom prepared a picnic for our family. Then we dinghyed over to shore and went hiking. I was astonished on how many cactus plants đ” there were and one poked through my momâs croc đ into her foot. When we got up to the peak it was an unparalleled view of St Barts, St Martin and even Anguilla - many miles away! We hiked up precipitous slope to the top of the island and it was awesome. We flew the drone over the bay and got some cool pictures. Then we had a delicious picnic lunch of sandwiches đ„Ș chips and cookiesđȘ. When we got down we got our snorkel stuff on and went snorkeling. đ The depth of the water was about 20 feet. My mom and I got tired and swam back to the boat while my dad and my brother snorkeled some more. When they got back we went fishing and caught five fish đŁ . We used hotdog đ for bait đ but it worked! After we went fishing we swam around the boat and we went to the anchor âïž and went to the bottom. When we were done with that we got the anchor up, put the sails up, and sailed to Saint Bartâs.
We ate lunch as we sailed across the mega yachtsđ„ in St Bartâs Harbor - We secured a mooring ball in Gustavia, the capital. We went into town to check in at customs and get our passport stamped then walked around the shops. There was no lack of places to spend money on clothes or food. We got an appetizer and milkshake at a restaurant before going back for dinner on the boat. We look forward to the next few days ashore in St Bartâs!
